Big BangHeld at Exeter University on the 26th June.

Hele’s School had 3 brilliant projects competing: ‘Effect of acidification on marine life’ by Harrison Nicholls, Matthew Robinson and John Thackray; ‘Protect yourself’ by Ben Cooke, John Goodwin, Karl Holman and Tyler Phillips; and ‘Endangered animals’ by Rosie Bray, Niamh Kelly, Morgan Lewis and Tegan Tunnicliffe. They all went prepared; they received a grilling from the judges, but all held their own fantastically. After the judging, we had a look around the amazing stalls from other schools and companies; found out about internal combustion engines, sat in a helicopter, took a taste test to find out about our genes, discovered the properties of bubbles, collected lots of freebies and most importantly enjoyed ourselves.

After lunch we went to a marvellous show/demonstration about the possibility of life on other planets and Morgan correctly answered a question to the whole audience – well done! Lastly, we went to the awards ceremony and cheered loudly for the projects that won. We returned home eager to go back next year with more projects, even better ideas and a determination to win next time!

Congratulations everyone who competed for your fantastic effort!
