Yr 11’s holding aloft their mock exam results.

On Thursday afternoon the Year 11 students received their GCSE mock results at this annual event. There was a real mix of nerves and excitement as the students finally opened their envelopes to see the result of their December mock exams and controlled assessments. Students were either huddled in small groups sharing the experience with friends, whilst some preferred a quiet corner as they slid the results out of the brown envelope to reveal all.

Afterwards they were taken through some key messages of inspiration and hope, combined with what these results mean for them and as a cohort at Hele’s.

This annual event is aimed at giving the students a real life experience of what it will be like on the real results day in August this year. The mock result event for many is a time of comfort knowing that their hard work and persistence indicates they are on course to reach their target grades. For a few it is the realisation that there is work to be done in order to reach their potential over the next 6 months.

The event coincides with a clear programme of support and guidance throughout year 11. With parents evening on Thursday 21st January, subject teachers, parents and students map out a way forward as they charge towards completing their Key Stage four studies. It’s at this time of year we see many of our students mature that little bit faster, knowing that their progress this year could be the deciding factor in exciting educational and employment opportunities.

Two poignant and contrasting quotes from our event today were, ‘I’ve improved two grades in my Maths since my year 10 exams, I’m so happy with my grade C’. And in contrast, ‘I realise now I shouldn’t have done so many hours at my part time job during my mock exams, I won’t be doing that this summer!’

No rest for the Year 11’s as they will be back in class tomorrow, striving for those higher grades!
