We have been working with Future First since September 2016 to build an alumni community of former students. Many of these alumni have agreed to help the current generation of students by sharing their experiences both at Hele’s School and in the world beyond. On Monday 6th March, twelve Hele’s School alumni returned to the school to deliver a two-hour workshop for Year 13 students who are intending to go to university. The alumni kindly offered to share the benefit of a wealth of experience in subjects ranging from Mathematics to Media and from Sports Science to Chemical Engineering. The alumni included students who are currently at university and those who have left university and are now involved in a variety of professions. In addition, the event was attended by Gary Streeter MP, who gave the opening address, and was the subject of a report on BBC Spotlight. Year 13 students were really positive about the event and Head Girl, Darcy Heath, said: “It was really useful to hear the point-of-view of former students because their experiences are much more relatable. It gave us an insight into university life and left us feeling much better prepared for the journey ahead.”

Miss Mason, said, “We work hard to help prepare our students for life after school, whatever they may choose to move on to, and using our alumni in such a proactive and positive way to support raise aspiration and ease transition is an important part of this commitment. It makes me so proud to welcome back those who have flown the Hele’s nest, and hear of their wonderful achievements in all walks of life; it is genuinely thrilling to know that the Hele’s family have played an important part in securing the best life chances possible for our alumni, and that those young people in turn are prepared to give up their time to share their journey and inspire others with their message of aim high, dream big, work hard.”
