The Art Challenge: To bring ‘Skellig’ to life

‘Skellig’ is a multi award winning children’s book, which features on the National Curriculum. Sky1 have adapted the book into a feature-length film starring Tim Roth, Kelly Macdonald, Bill Milner and John Simm.

Artwork produced by Hele’s School students can be seen at various times throughout the year at Ridgeway Surgery, Plympton Rotary Club, Plymouth Airport and Saltram House. Dates and details will be made public at the relevant times.

Department Facilities

  • The department has a fully functioning ‘wet’ darkroom, with the capacity to process and enlarge black & white photographs.
  • The department has 20 laptop computers with a range of specialist Art software, including Photoshop.
  • The department has 2 Apple Mac’s.
  • The department has a printing press.
  • The department has 2 kilns and a potter’s wheel.
  • Each of the art rooms has a video projector installed.

Extra-Curricular Opportunities

Within school there are the following activities available, some of which are offered to specific students who we feel would most benefit from this experience. Other opportunities are open to all students.

  • Photography.
  • Animation.
  • Pottery.
  • Clay club.
  • G&T Painting in Acrylics.

There are other opportunities which arise throughout the year and are undertaken off-site, these have included The Big Arts Day at Plymouth Pavillions and various courses at Plymouth College of Art or the local Specialist Art centre, Estover Community College.
