London TripAt the start of the Half term break, 14 Sixth Form students from Hele’s School travelled to London with teaching staff, to find out what our capital city has to offer tourists. This trip was planned to complement students’ BTEC studies in Travel and Tourism, and included a visit to Harrods on Oxford Street, the West End production of The Bodyguard and then Covent Garden , all on Day 1. An overnight stay in central London allowed students to see the city’s other side come to life, and the lamp lit walk from the Strand, along the Thames and past the London Eye was beautiful.

The second day saw students out and about on foot, covering the streets of Westminster, Downing Street and Horse Guards’ Parade, stopping off at the National Gallery and catching glimpses of the Thames and other major tourist attractions en route. The group then took the tube to Euston to make their way to Harry Potter World at Watford, undoubtedly for many, the highlight of the visit. Mrs Hall, Travel and Tourism teacher, said that even those students who are not self-confessed Harry Potter addicts wouldn’t have failed to be impressed by what was on show. An exciting and exhausting trip for all involved, the Hele’s students are now putting what they learnt to good use in their Level 3 BTEC unit on major tourist attractions in the UK, and are looking forward to hitting the high grades having been truly inspired by the visit.
