“Students are confident and happy, both around the academy and in lessons and are emphatic that they feel safe and well cared for.” (Ofsted 2012)

Effective support for our learners is at the heart of all we do. We understand that swift identification of need is essential and we work closely with parents and students to remove any barriers to learning. Our pastoral system provides each learner with a tutor to offer advice and guidance and our tutors are the first port of call for parents. Our Student Services facility provides learners with a round-the-clock service and our Pastoral Support Managers work closely with Pastoral leaders to provide effective communication between home and school.

Our SEN department identifies learners who need additional support to access the curriculum and works with our students to offer a wide range of bespoke programmes to support learning in the classroom. In addition, the Student Support Base offers advice and support for those learners who need that little bit of extra help in coping with secondary school life.

High standards of attendance and behaviour are important to us and we work hard to encourage and motivate our students through our Rewards system. If students need additional support to meet our expectations we will of course seek advice from outside agencies to help them reach their goals.

The safety and wellbeing of our learners is key to all of our work. At Hele’s we have a strong anti-bullying ethos and we look to our learners to shape this important aspect of our work.
