Royal Society of Chemistry – 2015 Olympiad

Year 13 students have achieved outstanding success in the Chemistry Olympiad competition this year. Organised by the Royal Society of Chemistry, this is a challenge accepted by the top A-level Chemistry students in the UK. Five Hele’s students tackled a variety of strange and complicated chemical problems, including questions on the Chemistry of touchscreens and hangovers:-

These students have offers from prestigious Universities and have now achieved national recognition as outstanding Chemists. Talia Temme (Chemistry) and Louise Thackray (Physics) received bronze certificates. Stephen Squires (Forensic Science) and Kenzie Nicks (Medicine) were awarded silver certificates, equalling the previous best performance by a Hele’s student. Matthew Callaghan (Natural Sciences, Cambridge) gained a gold certificate, an accolade accorded to the top 7% of Olympians. The overall team performance was outstanding, placing them in the top handful of Schools in the country!

Congratulations to all these students, their achievements illustrate the very high standard of Science in the Hele’s School 6th Form.
