Cakes and more for sale in aid of MacmillanScenes reminiscent of the Great British Bake Off were seen last week, as the students took part in the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support. Students turned out in droves in the Main Hall at break time to sample the huge range of cakes and savouries baked by other students, both at home and in Food Technology lessons. Year 8 students, Beth and Lucy, even went the extra mile and made green ribbons to sell to raise awareness. The Year 13 Hospitality students also hosted an event for parents (and grandparents) to come and join in with the fundraising. Hospitality teacher, Karen Wooding, said, “the atmosphere was incredible and I am very proud of the way that the students planned and delivered the whole event.” In order to raise the profile of the event, the whole school also took part in a non-uniform day, which was proposed by a group of Year 11 students. The theme for the day was to wear something green. In total the event has raised nearly £1400 for Macmillan, a fantastic effort by all involved.
