This week students and staff  proudly handed over a cheque for £1,000 to local charity, St Luke’s Hospice.

Before the Christmas holiday the school held a ‘Festive Friday’.   Enthusiastic students and staff turned up in a wonderful assortment of festive tops and jumpers and willingly made a donation for the privilege of doing so.  Students decided that they would like the money to go to a local charity and this year chose St Luke’s Hospice.

Nina Wearne, Senior Community Fundraiser at St Luke’s, visited our school to receive the cheque, and said she was very impressed by the amount that the school had raised in just one day. She explained to students that 85p in every £1 will go directly to care for the patients at St Luke’s, and thanked the school for their generous donation.

Miss Mason, was thrilled with the amount raised, but more so by the joy, fun and camaraderie the day presented.  She said, “The proposal to hold a Festive Friday mufti day was pitched to me by a group of staff and students who had worked with St Luke’s previously and were taken aback by the tremendous support and palliative care afforded to those with cancer.  Their proposal was grounded in a simple belief; that even in the face of adversity it is so important to smile and bring some joy and laughter to brighten the dark days.  That is exactly what the wonderful staff and volunteers at St Luke’s do, day in-day out, so it felt right that we support the charity in raising money to support their work, whilst also spreading fun and excitement across our school community.”

She continued, “We raise several thousand pounds for a wide range of charities each year.  Our school community is resolute in having a strong moral purpose to try to make a positive difference to others and to contribute in some way to improving the lives of those less fortunate than ourselves.  It makes me incredibly proud!”
