Six students and former students wanted to ensure that they had prepared well for their Mock Election this week so South West Devon parliamentary candidates were invited in to give some last minute advice.

Gary Streeter [Conservative], Philippa Davey [Labour] and Caroline Voaden [Liberal Democrat] visited the school and discussed the ideas that the students thought would get them the top position in the Mock General Election, which will take place throughout the day on Thursday at the school.

In preparation for voting on Thursday, students took part in a ‘Question Time’ style hustings debate.  The six students were representing the Conservatives, Liberal Democrats, Labour, the Green Party and UKIP and there was also one Independent candidate. Although all from different parties, high on their agendas was Europe, Education, the NHS and British values. The audience, comprising of Post 16 students, teachers and the South West Devon parliamentary candidates, all agreed that the debate was informative and thought provoking. Mr Stone, Director of Post 16 education, said he was incredibly proud of the students and their interest in current affairs.  Voting will take on Thursday when all students will be invited to participate.
