Duke of Edinburgh Training
2 teams of students set off on a practice walk for their Silver Duke of Edinburgh Award in late April.
Walking from Widecombe in the Moor, following parts of the Two Moors Way across Hamel Down to Grimspound and then back via Heathercombe and Natsworthy. The Silver expedition is a 3-day event, with 2 overnight camps. Students have to carry all their kit and be self sufficient during this period, so it is important to pack light and also eat well. A cold overnight was endured by all before the second leg of their walk on the Sunday. Students are working on other sections of their Silver Award alongside this training and their GCSEs, with volunteering, a skill and a physical section to complete as well.
